We are now at the age where it is somewhat painful to see how intrigued Jackson is with girls. I remember being around his age and struggling with how to get the courage to talk to a girl that I liked or found attractive. For Jackson, he may have the courage, but he just does not have the functional or the neurological ability to speak.
Although it is possible that Jackson could someday meet the perfect girl, I am concerned. I have yet to meet a married man whose wife felt he opened up and talked to her. I have been married nearly 30 years, and our biggest struggles have been the result of me not talking enough. The key word here is “enough.” If you ask the average man if he spoke sufficient about a situation or concern, he would probably reply; more than enough. However, you ask that same question about his wife, and the response would probably be: not nearly enough. The reality is only that men and women are just wired differently. Women need to talk about situations and feelings. For the average man, this is the last thing in the world that they want to do. But for Jackson, it's not a matter of not wanting to; it's a matter of him not being able to. For all we know, he actually may very much want to talk, talk, and talk, but he only can’t.
The critical question: Will there be a woman out there that could accept that? I'm not sure, but I will continue to hope because he sure has a lot of love to offer and as a teenager, it has become noticeable that he is now interested in the young ladies.
Husband, father, coffee connoisseur and lover of all things hockey. At 51 I sometimes wonder have I done enough. I have been married to my best friend for 30 years. She knows all my faults and loves me anyway, As a father of “almost always” perfect boys, I am always surprised at what life has to offer. It is messy, scary, thrilling, and always fun.
